Driver’s Responsibility
A last weekend on my trip to Kauai I had a little run in with Dollar rentals. They had to charge me an extra $75 because I was 23 years old and by their statistical data was positive that I was an "unsafe driver." Why does it have to be my age?
I started thinking. What if there were companies that charged people different rates because of their skin color, or their parents/familys economic status? THERE WOULD BE RIOTS! Total social upheaval!
Ok, so. It’s true. People under the age of 25 generally are bad drivers, but that does not mean that all people under the age of 25 are bad drivers. So I would like to propose a new system. Why can’t car rental agencies observe other areas of a person’s life to determine their level of responsibility and maturity?
Here are a few examples:
Grades
Credit Score
Driving Record
I find it interesting that Dollar rentals segregated me as irresponsible when I am considered an adult by everyone else in society. I’m an elementary teacher! I’m responsible for over 50 children’s education and well being! I have no criminal record and my credit score is well above the national average. I can buy a house, a car, a firearm. See my point?

So Kara hands me a letter today and I open it and I’m shocked. I couldn’t believe it. People, some I’ve met, and some I haven’t, pulled together with the help of Steve and Kara and gave me a gift. When I opened the letter I saw a check for $405 and a note of motivation. My eyes started sweating and I couldn’t believe it! I am truly blessed to have such people in my life. What meant more to me than anything was that people actually cared and sacrificed to help me, even people that didn’t know me! I just want to publicly thank the following people:

Watari Goro 渡äºâ€Ã©Æ’Ž
You guys, thank you so much for this. I am really blessed to have such people around me. Without this community and without your friendships I wouldn’t be the passionate photographer I am now. I really believe that. You guys motivate me and inspire me to move forward. If there is anything I can do to make it up please don’t hesitate to ask and I’m in no way being trite. I really mean it. If you want me to help you shoot a wedding or whatever I’m there! Let me help you the way you all helped me.
Love, Joe
