iPod saves Soldier’s Life on Flickr

Ipod saves Soldier’s Life on Flickr

The back of the Ipod.

Photos sent to me by my friend Danny with this caption:

My wife’s uncle works in a military hospital and told me about this. Its pretty amazing. Kevin Garrad (3rd Infantry Division) was on a street patrol in Iraq (Tikrit I believe) and as he rounded the corner of a building an armed (AK-47) insurgent came from the other side.

The two of them were within just a few feet of each other when they opened fire. The insurgent was killed and Kevin was hit in the left chest where his IPod was in his jacket pocket. It slowed the bullet down enough that it did not completely penetrate his body armor. Fortunately, Kevin suffered no wound.

I thought it was a great story so I posted them here.

UPDATE 04.05.07:
I just got an email via flickr from an engineer at Apple. He showed the photos around the office and want to help get the guy a new iPod. So it’s looking good that it will be replaced.

Comcast Still Being Naughty

Read this chat between customer support and an anonymous consumer and you will see that Comcast is not playing fair. If you pay for ‘unlimited’ internet use a month don’t you expect unlimited internet use? What if you paid for unlimited internet use but are limited to 200gb a month on bandwidth? Hmmm… What do you think?

The Seeing Tongue

The Seeing Tongue is an experimental technology that allows blind people to see through their tongue. This is achieved through cameras that then send electrical pulses that are felt by the tongue. Soon the brain is able to ‘read’ these impulses and create an image in the mind.

Worlds First Wheelchair Backflip!

Most amazing thing I’ve seen in a long time. A kid who isn’t just messing around in a wheelchair, he really is paralyzed goes to skate parks and doing tricks on his wheelchair. You have to see this. Then he claims to have completed the world’s first wheelchair backflip.

Net Neutrality

The Death of The Internet?

Something that I have been passionate about lately but haven’t said anything about is net-neutrality. I didn’t really want to open up that can of worms because, well, I would write forever…

This is how Wikipedia defines Net Neutrality, “…refers to a principle that underlies the design of the Internet… as non-selective or “neutral” about the content flowing through it. The term was coined around 2003 in political opposition to the possibility that telecom internet service providers, in the course of implementing proposed new service and content models, might impose selective (hence discriminatory) controls on the Internet’s traffic and content.”

You see big corporations such as AT&T and Telecom are proposing that they ‘lock down’ the internet from the public and only limiting it with the content that they deem fit. How could they do this you ask? Well, currently they are the ones sustaining the internet physically. However, just because they own and maintain the phone lines does that give them the right to limit and monitor the content that travels them? After all the consumer is paying a fee for the use and maintenance of this service. I will be posting videos, mostly mashups, concerning Net Neutrality. This is a serious topic and could alter the future of this information age.

Saddam Hussein

Very interesting flash about Saddam Hussein and Iraq’s relations with the United States. It flash starts out with many quotes and seems to have sources, however, towards the middle the quotes, and subsequently, it’s validity fades as well. Not sure what or how much to believe but definitely an interesting watch. It could be part true or a 100%, I’ll let you decide.

What do you think?

The following is what a friend of mine wrote and my response on his facebook. I read it to Kara and she said that I should blog it. So that’s what I’m doing. I’m not sure if I got my complete thoughts across. Tell me what you think:

What was writen:

Recently a friend called and let me know about a well know religious figure in our lives. This prominent figure is accused of pretty heinous crimes against children. We discussed if a seemingly good person could do such horrible things and still be considered a good person. Or are people of his nature bad people who seem to be good for parts of their lives.

My response:
How about, Everyone is bad and has the capability of doing such things. The more power a person attains the more difficult it is for them to control themselves or to see what is right or wrong if they are not looking toward a figure more moral then they. So it is not a matter of seemingly good people doing bad things, it’s a matter of ‘bad’ people who have reached the top and have no one to look to for moral guidance.

Facebook | Joe Philipson

If you look to the left under my blog roll you’ll notice that I put a spot for my facebook account. Facebook is a ‘social networking’ site. It keeps people in touch and help people communicate and stay close. No, this is not myspace.com I hate ‘my space’ and I actually was very hesitant to even go to this site much less set up an account. It is really clean and very secure. You can’t communicate with people unless you know them. Unlike ‘my space’ it is very classy and neat and does not allow you to customize your page in any way. It really acts more like a yellow pages of the world but does allow you to send messages and keep people up to date with where you are and what you’re doing.

If you do end up setting up an account by all means add me as a friend, I would love to get to know each and every one of my readers.
