Appeals Court Says Feds Need Warrants to Search E-Mail
A federal appeals court on Monday issued a landmark decision (.pdf) that holds that e-mail has similar constitutional privacy protections as telephone communications, meaning that federal investigators who search and seize emails without obtaining probable cause warrants will now have to do so.

I Got Quoted on BBC, and Nobody Told Me?!
In their article Flickr to require Yahoo usernames, I, Joe Philipson, was quoted along side Jimmy Wales, creator of Wikipedia, about Yahoo changing the login process on Flickr.
So comment and tell me what you think! Now I’m off to Google my name some more and see what else happened without my knowledge.
Google Releases 3D Warehouse and Sketch Up
3D Warehouse is where users can submit 3D models of anything. Why would Google ever want to get into this? Remember, Google is getting into everything. They will one day rule the world. So you need a 3D model. Download it. They also provide a free 3D modeling program called “Sketch Up”. I’m definitely excited about this because I was recently going to get back into 3D modeling in Lightwave but I think I am going to just do this. Also, I just learned that Adobe has released a plug-in for Photoshop CS3
RSS to iPod

Don’t you hate it when you don’t have the time to sit at your desk and go through your RSS feeds? I do. It would be really nice to read my RSS feeds at the doctor’s office, boring parties, at the beach. I don’t know why I never thought of this before but I found a great tool to help me get my RSS feeds onto my iPod. It is called iFeedPod and if you are an RSS junkie like me then this is a must. It takes your feeds automatically collects them converts them into notes and puts them on your iPod. I was actually quite amazed at the speed at which this was performed. Best part of all is that it is FREE.
Why You Should Use GMail
I have been using Gmail since my first invite a couple of years ago and I have to say that I’m never going to switch. Furthermore, everyone I’ve ever told to get Gmail and took my advice thanked me later because it changed their lives in ways that only they could describe. It’s kind of like a really good chocolate truffle, satisfying yet hard to put into words. Luckily Google has put together a neat little video to explain to you the wonders of Gmail.
By the way, Gmail just announced that they are allowing 20MB attachments. Sweet!

Why is this number ’09 F9 11 02 9D 74 E3 5B D8 41 56 C5 63 56 88 C0′ all over the internet?
This number is the ‘key’ to crack the HD-DVD encryption so that you can effectively, with the right software, copy and duplicate HD-DVD discs. HD-DVD and Blueray discs were announced to be practically unhackable. Of course, we all know that nothing digital is safe. I will be updating this post with many posts of this crazy phenomenon. When the news article arose it was placed on www.digg.com which is a news aggregating website. I sometimes get some nifty tech stories from this site. The code was put up but then taken down in an effort of censorship. This made the ‘geek’ community quite angry because they couldn’t believe that the website that they used to expose everything from corporate frauds to useless Japaneses inventions was now working against them. Then chaos ensued. Even this morning as my friend Kara watched NBC news the video was interrupted by the above code which flashed for several seconds before coming down and displaying the original picture. Don’t make geeks angry because secretly they rule the world.
HD-DVD Key fiasco is an example of the 21st Century Revolt.
How The DMCA Policy Compares on Social News Sites
Social news sites have had to develop copyright policies and work to comply with the DMCA. Most larger social news sites have designated DMCA agents and processes in place to handle complaints of copyright infringement. Here’s how the major social news sites (Digg, Reddit, Slashdot, Netscape) stack up…

Child porn case shows that an open WiFi network is no defense
A man convicted of possessing child pornography argued that his unsecured wireless access point means that the evidence against him should have been thrown out. An appeals court disagrees, demonstrating why arguing that “my WiFi network was open” isn’t a great legal strategy.

Flickr: 24 hours of Flickr

What happens around the world in one day? In a word – life. Here on Flickr, photographers are sharing what they see: snapping daily moments, recording history, telling stories, capturing beauty.
To celebrate this global community, we invite you to join us in “24 Hours of Flickr” – a day-long global photo project. On May 5, 2007, grab your camera and whatever else you need, and chronicle your day in pictures. The group’s photos will be featured at Flickr events around the world this summer and in a companion book, which will contain a selection of photographs chosen from the group (more about this soon!).
