SXSW Music 2010
I’ve decided to finally go through some of the movies I’ve been making with both my iPhone and my new Canon 5D Mark II. I got FInal Cut Express and have learned it pretty quickly… forgive the cuts and noob mistakes. This is a collection of some of the music I really enjoyed listening to this past year at SX, hope you enjoy it.
Stairway to Heaven
The Haiku Stairs, also known as the Stairway to Heaven or Haiku Ladder, is a steep hiking trail on the island of Oahu.
The trail began as a wooden ladder spiked to the cliff on the south side of the Haiku Valley. It was installed in 1943 to enable the construction of antenna cables that would be strung from one side of the cliffs above Haiku Valley to the other. A building to provide a continuous communication link between Wahiawa and Haiku Valley Naval Radio Station was also constructed at the very peak of Puukeahiakahoe, elevation at about 2,800 feet (850 m). These extraordinary antennae transmitted very low frequency radio signals from a 200,000-watt Alexanderson alternator located in the center of Ha?ik? valley. The signals could reach US Navy submarines as far away as Tokyo Bay even while the submarines remained underwater.
A popular history of the construction of Haiku Stairs is contained in Woodbury, David Builders for Battle chapter XXIII, E P Hutton & Company Inc., New York, 1946.
When the Naval base was decommissioned in the 1950s, the United States Coast Guard used the site for an Omega station. In the early 1950s, the wooden stairs were replaced by sections of metal steps and ramps — by one count, 3,922 steps. The station and trail were closed to the public in 1987. Despite the closure, some hikers ignore the No Trespassing signs and continue to climb, contributing to the local community’s misgivings about reopening the structure.
Local officials have repaired the trail and the ladders, but the trail will remain closed and patrolled by security until access and management issues have been resolved.
What I learned:
1. Trespassing on government can be fun! However, you could go to jail.
2. Always carry sufficient bribe money.
3. Bring more water.
I recently found this internet meme and thought it was hilarious and worth posting with all the variations… the first one is the original and the rest are parodies. I don’t know the order in which the parodies surfaced but they’re definitely hilarious.

I Crush Everything.
Some of you who know me also know that I’ve been a bit funky lately. I haven’t been myself. Two months ago I lost someone that I love. It was my fault and for this I hate myself. I’ve begun to change. I have slowly begun to stop caring about what people think of me and I have begun to slowly distance myself from people. I don’t know what this means, if it’s a good thing or a bad thing. I just don’t want to hurt anyone else anymore. I used to know who I was, what I wanted to be, what things I wanted to accomplish. Those have all shattered recently. In my head I know that one day I will rise above all this and conquer, but in my heart I feel as if this is it. The end.
I recently heard a song recently by Jonathon Coulton called “I Crush Everything.” Although the song is written about a giant squid, it is sort of how I feel, the tone of the song, the lyrics, the people in it. I have also decided that I’m going to start blogging more often to try and sort out my thoughts.

So flickr video is up and a lot of people are not to happy about it… they think it’s going to turn into YouTube… I’m just going to kick back and see… Youtube is open to the masses and people are stupid. Often times I tell my friends they should get involved on twitter and I can never fully explain it and when I try they often look at me like I’m stupid. Alas, it has been explained!

I wish I knew about this before I went into college. Having to wear a tie everyday! This could also come in handy if you work a retail job.

History of LolCats
I saw this video and thought it was so funny! I’ve actually met the guy that started the ICHC site. He lives here in Hawaii and has come, at least on one occasion, to the Manoa Geek meet. Enjoy the video and embrace this internet meme. It will for sure make you smile, even if you do not like cats.
Messing Around
Just messing around in my room… This song is by a string group called Bond – I absolutely love their music. I pause a couple of times to scroll down to the next page of music and I mess a little bit in one spot (I’m not going to say) otherwise this was a perfect performance. Let me know if you like
