The cutest little animal ever created.

Kinkajou care sheet says:

Kinkajous are generally quiet and docile, and they have no noticeable odor. Because they are slow and languid, especially just after being wakened from a nap, they do not particularly like quick sudden movements. As a rule, Kinkajous are gentle and nonaggressive most of the time, although they can get wound up and become quite playful, and like to “dive bomb” and pounce on you from high places!

Although primarily arboreal and nocturnal in their native habitat, they will play on the ground in captivity, and if you spend a lot of time playing and socializing with them during the day, they will sleep at night. However, be prepared for the fact that they may also want to play and explore much of the night, and a good sized cage with branches is usually the best night-time solution for them if you want to get any sleep!

Dive Bomb!? How awesome!

So now you know what a kinkajou is but they must cost a lot of money right? Well, I’ve been researching and looking around online for breeders and the cost is roughly $2-$3,000 to buy and transport a kinkajou. I think that’s a great price for such an awesome pet don’t you? I’m not going to get one now of course. However, one day when I have a family and a house and I settle down and stop living the gypsy life, I’m getting a kinkajou.

Here is a National Geographic video I found about kinkajou’s. I haven’t heard it yet because I’m currently sitting in Hawaii Public Radio helping take donations over the phone and they’re on the air but I’m pretty sure it’ll be a good description.

Here’s a video that I found on youtube of a baby kinkajou.

As the photographer for Congressman Neil Abercrombie I get the privelage to an insight to the political system. Here Neil speaks about his recent trip to Ohio and the financial crisis and the bailout. It was a very interesting discussion and I wish I had recorded the entire conversation but even just this snippet that I captured was still great. You may agree, you may not, but he does say some very interesting things. He talks about how these major corporations committed fraud and that they should be held responsible.

“Love when photographers plaster their name & © all over an image. It’s like a chef peeing his initials onto your mashed potatoes. Voilà!” -Merlin Mann

Watermarking has always debated on doing. As a photographer I find it hard to paste something over my photos. By drawing the eye away from the object I was photographing I was ruining the photo. What was the point of expressing myself if every photo had this ugly stamp on it? Well, in the end I decided to go ahead and start watermarking all of my photos. Let’s run through the pro’s and con’s.

Cons:
-Asthetically displeasing
-Makes me feel like I’m expressing myself to be a professional in places I just want to have fun (ie flickr)
-Less likely to have my photo used across the internet
-Nice to have flickr as a photo-backup system but with watermarked that can’t be.

Pros:
-Always gives me credit for my work no matter who takes it and embeds it elsewhere
-Establishes me as a professional
-Limits the number of people that will “steal” my work
-With the new “Orphaned Works” Law I can be sure that my photo will not be justifiably stolen.
-If the artist or blogger forgets or just blatantly doesn’t attribute credit It’s not the end of the world.

So as you can see the pro’s out weigh the cons. I have had some photos make it BIG and later only to wish that I would have placed a watermark somewhere before hundreds of thousands of people made it their desktop wallpapers and blogged it all over the internet.

With this decision you will start seeing almost all my “serious” shots with watermarks.

What do you think?

Some of you who know me also know that I’ve been a bit funky lately. I haven’t been myself. Two months ago I lost someone that I love. It was my fault and for this I hate myself. I’ve begun to change. I have slowly begun to stop caring about what people think of me and I have begun to slowly distance myself from people. I don’t know what this means, if it’s a good thing or a bad thing. I just don’t want to hurt anyone else anymore. I used to know who I was, what I wanted to be, what things I wanted to accomplish. Those have all shattered recently. In my head I know that one day I will rise above all this and conquer, but in my heart I feel as if this is it. The end.

I recently heard a song recently by Jonathon Coulton called “I Crush Everything.” Although the song is written about a giant squid, it is sort of how I feel, the tone of the song, the lyrics, the people in it. I have also decided that I’m going to start blogging more often to try and sort out my thoughts.

I was so happy when I first found out that there was going to be a brand new Apple store opening up on the strip in Waikiki and even more happy when I moved into town. Now that I live in town I am a literal 5 minute bike ride from the Apple store. I’m ecstatic about this store.

I live streamed the event and you can find the videos and photos below:

Here the priest blesses the opening of the Apple Store, this tradition is common in Hawaii.
